Who Would Make a Good President?

Who would make a good president? It seems we’ve been over this ground before when the prompt hand to do with “Would you want to be President?” or some such prompt. I would make a terrible president. I have a difficult time prioritizing things and that seems like a skill that would be very important to have in a president.

I also lack tact in expressing myself and my opinions. Presidents have to be very careful about what they say and how they say it and when they say it. That’s not me. I would constantly be sticking my foot in my mouth and saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. That’s not a quality you want in a president.

I would not want the responsibility of being president, either. The president is responsible for the safety and security of the country. He or she needs to be aware of all the dangers in the world that could threaten the security of our nation, and know what to do about them, with the help of his or her advisors. That is an awesome responsibility and not one that I would take on gladly.

The president must work with people of all political persuasions and be able to know when to compromise and when to stand firm. I am too much of a people-pleaser to stand firm on issues that cannot be compromised. I could not do that.

A president must be willing to act whatever time a crisis occurs. He or she needs remarkable strength, both mental and physical, in order to do the job of president. I would never be able to do that due to my disability and physical and mental limitations. I am not the person you want as president.

So the question becomes, who would make a good president? It’s a question we must answer every four years and it is an awesome responsibility to select the individual who will become president. This election will be very interesting, as we must choose between President Obama and an as-yet unknown candidate.

President Obama, in my opinion, has lacked leadership abilities and is too quickly influenced by the politicians who surround him. It pains me to say this, since I had high hopes for him. He has also not done a good job in being a world leader so far. This is important since we are the only super-power left in the world and need to take the primary position in world affairs. President Obama is lacking in this area. He is a pleasant person but made many promises during the elections that he has not completed. This shows his lack of leadership, as does his lack of leadership in his own political party.

So far, I have not seen much better from the Republican candidates in this group who wish to be president. There are several candidates that may show promise but it is too early in the race to say if they have the abilities needed to be president. One of those people is John Huntsman. He is an interesting person and has an interesting background, which may prove to be what the country needs. But we will have to wait and see as the race progresses.

Most of the Republican candidates at this point basically say that they would be better than President Obama but say little else that makes any difference. They don’t say what they would do except to say they aren’t President Obama. They throw around phrases such as “Obama-Care” but don’t let us know what their policies would be. So many of them are supported by rich donors to whom they then owe favors and the majority of the people of the United States are left to fend for themselves.

The job of the president is very important and needs a well-rounded, intelligent person who is willing to devote his or her entire life to running the country. I hope we find such a candidate who is well-qualified and willing to give of himself or herself to serve our country.

I am a "youngish" grandmother of 15 year old twin granddaughter who has recently (is a year "recent"?) adopted Islam as my way of life, much to the consternation of my family. I love to read. I love to write. I am writing a book about my decision to revert, about my spiritual journey. I have another blog about stories from my youth, my parents, and grandparents. It's a blog so my OCD daughter will not be able to throw it out when I die. I suffer from depression and anxiety, for which I am treated, so my posts may be a bit dark at times. C'est la vie.
