“You’ll call as soon as you get there?” her mother asked, not sure if her daughter really would or not.
“Yes, Mom. I said I would. But with the time difference, I have no idea what time that will be or even if I’ll be able to find a phone. We don’t have a phone at the apartment, Carl said.”
“I know. But try to find one. I just need to know if you’re safe. Japan is so far away and this is such a long trip for you to make by yourself. I worry about you,” her mother replied.
“It’s okay, Mom. I’ll be back in July. It’s only for six months. Everything will be all right. I love you. I’ll try to call.” And with that, she made her way down the jetway to the plane and off to the Far East and to her husband.
