What Is Your Favorite Sound?

What is my favorite sound? This is such an easy question for me to answer. My favorite sound is the waves of the ocean crashing onto the rock on the coast of Maine. The ocean holds my favorite sounds: the waves rolling onto the beach, the sound of the waves lapping at the sides of a boat, the winds coming in from the ocean. But I adore hearing the fury of the crashing waves as they hit against the rocky coast of Maine. I can see in my mind the large black rocks on the Maine coast and see the waves as they smash onto the rocks, throwing water high into the air and the bubbles frothing at the lower rocks.

It is a peaceful sound for me; it is regular and powerful and strong. I feel the fury of the ocean but I am not afraid of that fury, as I stay away from the powerful currents and undertows that accompany the waves. Sometimes small pools form from the water that has come in at high tide and is then trapped in the depressions in the rocks to form tidal pools that lie still when the tide goes out. Small starfish and clams are caught in the pools, and all is peaceful.

The sounds of the crashing waves makes me feel the strength of the ocean and I know its power. But the sound is very regular in intervals and soothing to me. So I feel comforted by the crashing of the waves. This is my favorite sound in the world.

About mairedubhtx

I am a "youngish" grandmother of 15 year old twin granddaughter who has recently (is a year "recent"?) adopted Islam as my way of life, much to the consternation of my family. I love to read. I love to write. I am writing a book about my decision to revert, about my spiritual journey. I have another blog about stories from my youth, my parents, and grandparents. It's a blog so my OCD daughter will not be able to throw it out when I die. I suffer from depression and anxiety, for which I am treated, so my posts may be a bit dark at times. C'est la vie.
