B is for Barbie

This morning “B” is for Barbie. No, not THAT Barbie. My friend Barbie. This morning our little “God Squad” (a Muslim–me–, a Christian, and a Jew–Barbie) are going to Imagine Peace 2011, a children’s workshop for peace at a local high school. We will be doing two break-out sessions where we will show how many similarities we have amongst our various religions.

Barbie is one of the founders of the Tri-Faith Dialogue Exchange in San Antonio that was started in 1999. The purpose is to bring the members of the three Abrahamic religions together for dialogue and to get to know each other better and understand one another. The little group grew from 3 people in 1999 to several dozen today. We have had a book discussion where we read a Muslim book about justice to the animals. We eat lunch together once a month. Barbie works hard to keep the Tri-Faith Dialogue Exchange going and from it has sprung the Interfaith San Antonio Exhange to include other religions in our dialogue.

I look forward to working with Barbie today. She is enthusiastic about whatever she does and this day will be a blessing for those children who participate in Imagine Peace 2011 and for me personally for spending the day with Barbie.

This post is part of a month-long series, A-Z, that I am participating in for the month of April.

About mairedubhtx

I am a "youngish" grandmother of 15 year old twin granddaughter who has recently (is a year "recent"?) adopted Islam as my way of life, much to the consternation of my family. I love to read. I love to write. I am writing a book about my decision to revert, about my spiritual journey. I have another blog about stories from my youth, my parents, and grandparents. It's a blog so my OCD daughter will not be able to throw it out when I die. I suffer from depression and anxiety, for which I am treated, so my posts may be a bit dark at times. C'est la vie.
