For some unknown reason, Americans seem to have developed a love affair with bacon. When I took my granddaughters to dinner on Sunday at Denny’s (one of their favorite places because it’s not crowded and we don’t have to scream to hear each other), we noticed a menu devoted to bacon dishes. Bacon on everything. Bacon on things you would not want bacon on. My granddaughters don’t even like bacon much, and couldn’t understand why people would be so ga-ga for bacon.
This does not even take into consideration that as a Muslima, I can’t eat bacon. It’s a no-no for Muslims. Apparently Denny;s doesn’t get a large segment of the Muslim community and so that’s a good thing or else they would have to get rid of the bacon menu and have some other food holiday celebration. There are so many places where i go to order something and have to say “no bacon, please.” Bacon seems to be everywhere and on everything. Never mind that bacon is not exactly good for you, what with all that grease and fat. Denny’s did have a veggie omelette that I had the other week with turkey bacon. At least that’s a little better.
The food police will soon raid Denny’s when they hear about the bacon menu. Or not. They have other things to do. For example, I just heard about a school district that will no longer allow kids to bring their own lunch to school because the principal saw too many kids were bringing chips and soda and cookies. So to eat (healthy or otherwise) the poor kids will have to cough up the money to eat the wonderful cafeteria food. I know that has nothing to do with bacon, but it was interesting,
This topic was not as bad as the puppies, but i hope I did something decent with it.
