I have a tendency to go on rants. They can be about almost anything that I feel passionate about. Politics, the environment, my relationship with my daughter, stupid people–could be anything. My latest rants have been mainly political, especially about the budget and funding for health care. I can write forever about those topics. The more I write, the more riled up I get. My words seem to feed on themselves and I tend to go on and on concerning a topic that I feel strongly about.
I can also get going on people’s ignorance when it comes to Islam. There are so many misinformed and uninformed people out there about Islam and what it teaches, especially about the Qur’an and religious rules that we follow. I also can pretty worked up about people who claim to be Christian and their lack of knowledge of their own religion. So many Christians seem to be willing to follow the Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament) rather than the teachings of Jesus. If you’re Christian, wouldn’t you be expected to follow the teachings of Jesus rather than the teachings of hundreds of years before. They don’t follow the religious practices of the Jews, but they accept teachings like “an eye for an eye,” even though Jesus used that expression and then said, “But I say to you…” and said exactly the opposite. But they insist on using the old teachings. It makes no sense to me. They don’t take into consideration the time period jesus lived in and how women were treated in general, and fail to realize how revolutionary his response toward women was for his time in history. They also place almost as much emphasis on what St. Paul said rather than what Jesus taught. That’s my rant about religion.
I can rant with the best of them. This is supposed to be a rant about rants, so there is my rant about rants.
Now I will rant about some of the lame topics or prompts in the past week or so. The “dilemma” of the puppies was the worst. What crazy person came up with that idea? It was a no-win situation and dumb to begin with. I thought piloting a vehicle was lame until I found I could easily write about wanting to drive my own car again instead of a rental after my accident. This was a rather lame topic but I found I could rant about some of my favorite rants.
Rants are actually healthy for you, I think. You get the emotions out of your system and onto the paper (or computer) and the very act of doing that helps reduce stress in your body. They give you an opportunity to vent. Rants probably annoy a great many people but too bad for them. They don’t have to read them.
