Close your eyes and try to think about nothing. What do you see?

This seems to be a swipe at meditation, which empties the mind of thought. If you tell yourself to think of nothing, you will eventually thing of all sorts of things. My psychologist told me to try this while meditating and it really works. When extraneous thoughts come through, just acknowledge them and let them pass along. Don’t dwell on them.

My own way of meditating is to close my sees and focus on the end of my nose and focus on my breathing. That allows me to meditate fairly well.

But to try to think about nothing will not work. You will have more thought than you can shake a stick at.

About mairedubhtx

I am a "youngish" grandmother of 15 year old twin granddaughter who has recently (is a year "recent"?) adopted Islam as my way of life, much to the consternation of my family. I love to read. I love to write. I am writing a book about my decision to revert, about my spiritual journey. I have another blog about stories from my youth, my parents, and grandparents. It's a blog so my OCD daughter will not be able to throw it out when I die. I suffer from depression and anxiety, for which I am treated, so my posts may be a bit dark at times. C'est la vie.
