Book and Film Challenge Update

The 31st Book I read was The Private Patient by P.D. James, an Adam Dalgliesh mystery. An investigative journalist with a nasty scar on her face from 34 years ago has decided to have it removed and goes to a cosmetic surgeon. He has a a clinic at a manor house on the coast where he takes private patients and they are treated to every luxuries during their stay. Rhoda, the journalist, opts for this stay and arrives for her surgery. The surgery goes well but the morning after her surgery, she is found murdered, strangled in her bed. Dalgliesh and his teamare called to investigate. All those living at the manor are suspected as it seems to be an inside job. There seem to be many motives and many suspects as Dalgliesh and his team investigate Rhoda’s life. Her friend Robyn has also come to the cottage on the manor to see her and is distraught over her death but deciddes to remain, as his cousins live at the manor. Several days after Rhoda’s death, Robyn, too is found murdered. Who is the killer on the loose? Will Dalgliesh and his team find the killer and the motives for these crimes? P.D> James is at her finest as she weaves her various subplots involving the team members and Dalgliesh himself into the well-told story. Thirty-one down, 69 to go.

About mairedubhtx

I am a "youngish" grandmother of 15 year old twin granddaughter who has recently (is a year "recent"?) adopted Islam as my way of life, much to the consternation of my family. I love to read. I love to write. I am writing a book about my decision to revert, about my spiritual journey. I have another blog about stories from my youth, my parents, and grandparents. It's a blog so my OCD daughter will not be able to throw it out when I die. I suffer from depression and anxiety, for which I am treated, so my posts may be a bit dark at times. C'est la vie.

Thanks – PD James is one of my favourite authors. An older woman proving that age doesn’t stop one doing what one is good at. Thanks for sharing. It’s now on my library list.
