Book and Film Challenge Update

The 39th book I read for the challenge was NOT a mystery. It was a novel entitled Carry the One by Carol Anshaw. It follows the lives of two families and their friends who were all in a car that hit and killed a young girl after the wedding of two of the relatives of the people in the car from 1985 to the present. Each chapter focuses primarily on one of the people who was in in the car or one of the newly married couple every few years after the accident. It follows their lives, and the premise is that none of them ever really get over that night in which the little girl was killed. The group always stays together, somewhat, but they always “carry the one,” Casey, the girl who was killed. Each character is quite unique in his or her own way but they all love and put up with each other. Some achieve some degree of success. Some become successful only to keep throwing it all away. Some try to save the world. One, an artist, paints portraits of Casey, the dead girl, as she sees Casey aging. It’s a very interesting novel and takes some time to get into it, but once you figure it out, it is a good read. Thirty-nine down, 61 to go.

About mairedubhtx

I am a "youngish" grandmother of 15 year old twin granddaughter who has recently (is a year "recent"?) adopted Islam as my way of life, much to the consternation of my family. I love to read. I love to write. I am writing a book about my decision to revert, about my spiritual journey. I have another blog about stories from my youth, my parents, and grandparents. It's a blog so my OCD daughter will not be able to throw it out when I die. I suffer from depression and anxiety, for which I am treated, so my posts may be a bit dark at times. C'est la vie.
