Book and Film Challenge Update

The twelfth film I saw for the challenge was The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. It is the story of a diverse group of English pensioners who, for various reasons, feel they need to find a cheaper alternative to living out their golden years in Britain and decide to go to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel for the Elderly and Beautiful in India. It is described in glowing terms in the brochure as a place for retirees with all amenities at reasonable rates. Unfortunately, the pensioners arrive a little earlier than Sunny, the manager, has anticipated and things are not quite ready, so there are a few glitches. The film also develops the characters of each of the pensioners so that the film goer cares about them and why they’ve come to India. This is a lovely film that makes you care about the British characters and the Indian characters and the fate of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel for the Elderly and Beautiful. Twelve down, thirteen to go.

About mairedubhtx

I am a "youngish" grandmother of 15 year old twin granddaughter who has recently (is a year "recent"?) adopted Islam as my way of life, much to the consternation of my family. I love to read. I love to write. I am writing a book about my decision to revert, about my spiritual journey. I have another blog about stories from my youth, my parents, and grandparents. It's a blog so my OCD daughter will not be able to throw it out when I die. I suffer from depression and anxiety, for which I am treated, so my posts may be a bit dark at times. C'est la vie.
