Book and Film Challenge Update

I finished book number 94, Easily Amused by Karen McQuestion. Lola Watson is twenty-nine, the editor of a parenting magazine and inheritor of her Aunt May’s home. She is just adjusting to the neighborliness of the neighborhood where everyone knows everyone else’s business when she returns home one night to find someone in her house. The police are called and the house is searched and lo and behold, they find her best friend Hubert Holme, whom she told to drop over anytime. He found the key under the flower pot on the porch and let himself in. He has no shoes and is dressed in his jeans and t-shirt. It seems that he didn’t clean all the marinara sauce off the stove and his girlfriend Kelly locked him out and he had nowhere to go so he came to Lola’s house. Lola has plenty of room in Aunt May’s house and is willing to let her best friend stay as long as he needs to. Lola has no love for Kelly since Kelly has no love for Lola and the other member of their triad, Piper, who is married and has a baby. It turns out that this time Kelly has really thrown Hubert out for good and with Piper’s van, they go to collect his stuff and Hubert moves into one of Lola’s spare rooms.

Hubert is the perfect roommate. He makes dinner. He cleans. He makes friends with the neighbors, something Lola has been avoiding. Lola’s sister Mindy is getting married on Lola’s thirtieth birthday and wants to have a cake at the wedding. Lola doesn’t want this because it would be Mindy throwing Lola’s singleness in her face, so Piper and Lola hatch a plan to have a handsome man escort Lola to the wedding and for Lola to announce that she is engaged to him at the wedding to get back at Mindy. The perfect man appears in the form of  Ryan Moriarity who lives across the street from Lola. He is handsome and appears to be rich and willing to go along with the ruse. Lola is also falling hard for Ryan.

But Hubert is also in love with Lola. And Lola has feelings for Hubert. And when Mindy begins disappearing after she and her fiancé double date with Lola and Ryan, this start to deteriorate fast. Ninety-four down, 31 to go.

About mairedubhtx

I am a "youngish" grandmother of 15 year old twin granddaughter who has recently (is a year "recent"?) adopted Islam as my way of life, much to the consternation of my family. I love to read. I love to write. I am writing a book about my decision to revert, about my spiritual journey. I have another blog about stories from my youth, my parents, and grandparents. It's a blog so my OCD daughter will not be able to throw it out when I die. I suffer from depression and anxiety, for which I am treated, so my posts may be a bit dark at times. C'est la vie.
