“You’ll call as soon as you get there?” her mother asked, not sure if her daughter really would or not.

“Yes, Mom. I said I would. But with the time difference, I have no idea what time that will be or even if I’ll be able to find a phone. We don’t have a phone at the apartment, Carl said.”

“I know. But try to find one. I just need to know if you’re safe. Japan is so far away and this is such a long trip for you to make by yourself. I worry about you,” her mother replied.

“It’s okay, Mom. I’ll be back in July. It’s only for six months. Everything will be all right. I love you. I’ll try to call.” And with that, she made her way down the jetway to the plane and off to the Far East and to her husband.

About mairedubhtx

I am a "youngish" grandmother of 15 year old twin granddaughter who has recently (is a year "recent"?) adopted Islam as my way of life, much to the consternation of my family. I love to read. I love to write. I am writing a book about my decision to revert, about my spiritual journey. I have another blog about stories from my youth, my parents, and grandparents. It's a blog so my OCD daughter will not be able to throw it out when I die. I suffer from depression and anxiety, for which I am treated, so my posts may be a bit dark at times. C'est la vie.
