Among The Missing

I may be among the missing for a few days–tomorrow and next week. I was called for jury duty today and despite my best efforts to be quite and unassuming in the jury panel in the voir dire panel today of 65 potential jurors, I was selected to be on a jury in a criminal felony case. The case will probably last a week, the judge said. We don’t have court on Monday (it’s President’s Day), but we do have Court Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. She didn’t think it would go beyond Friday. The man is charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. We also have to assess the penalty if he is found guilty. He could get anywhere from probation to 5 years to 99 years to life. That’s a pretty broad range of punishment. The man was quite nervous in the courtroom. He was visibly shaking. I really felt sorry for him. And the trial had not yet begun. There are 10 women and 2 men on the jury. I don’t know what that means. But I know that it means long days for me downtown and Ralphy has to spend long days in his kennel (poor Ralphy). It should be an interesting experience for me at any rate. I just hope I will do a good, fair job. I just want to be fair and just to this man. Pray that I will. Thank you.

About mairedubhtx

I am a "youngish" grandmother of 15 year old twin granddaughter who has recently (is a year "recent"?) adopted Islam as my way of life, much to the consternation of my family. I love to read. I love to write. I am writing a book about my decision to revert, about my spiritual journey. I have another blog about stories from my youth, my parents, and grandparents. It's a blog so my OCD daughter will not be able to throw it out when I die. I suffer from depression and anxiety, for which I am treated, so my posts may be a bit dark at times. C'est la vie.
