Tell us about a time where everything you’d hoped would happen actually did. 

I took my car into the dealership yesterday for its 30,000 mile service. It’s a major service and an expensive one. I knew that going into it. I also was having some problems with the transmission of the car that needed to be taken care of since the car was last worked on (the transmission had been replaced and still had some glitches). The service is supposed to take care of that. The other thing that the service is supposed to do is to look for potential problems that might arise in the coming months and fix them before they become major problems.

I have a rental car for the time that the service department has my car. That’s good because this service, even if they found nothing else wrong with the car, would take all day. But I got a call during the day yesterday that the service technicians did indeed find something that was going wrong with the car. This was what I feared, but what I wanted the service to find out. The timing belt needed to be replaced and also another belt that was cracking. Better to discover this now than to have these belts fail when I am driving the car and be stuck on the side of the road. This happened to me in my last car and I’m glad they discovered the problem now when I could do something about it rather than have a problem literally down the road.

So the service did what it was intended to do–find a problem that was lurking–and do the required services. It is costing me quite a bit of money, unfortunately, but at least I can pay for it now and not be hit with an emergency bill and stuck with towing and a rental car later when the part failed later. So my service did what it was supposed to do. It costs money, but that’s the way it goes. Better now than later. This has been a successful automobile service for me.
