Book Challenge Update–95

I have finished the 95th book for the book challenge. It was Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich.

wicked-appetiteLizzy Tucker is an Unmentionable. She is a baker who bakes unmentionably good cupcakes. She also has an unmentionable skill of finding possessed objects.

She is visited by another Unmentionable, Diesel, a hulking blond who is searching for the SALIGIA stones. These are the stones representing the seven deadly sins. Right now, he is searching for the gluttony stone. Uncle Phil More had this stone and he had charms that are the clues to this stone. He died and left these charms to his niece and nephews. Diesel wants Lizzy’s help in locating these charms.

The first person they track down is Shirley More, who orders several dozen cupcakes from the bakery every week. Lizzy and Diesel break into Shirley’s apartment and look for the charm. They find an apartment filled with food and Shirley comes home. Glo, Lizzy’s co-worker, places a spell in Shirley that makes her speak only gobbles when she was hoping it would be a truth-speaking spell. But they find the charm, a ladybug, on Shirley’s purse.

Diesel and Lizzy then go to Lenny More’s house where they run into Diesel’s evil cousin Wulf who is also after the charms and his lackey Hackett. In searching for the charm, they accidentally blow up the house and figure they have destroyed the charm. But it hasn’t been destroyed. Wulf has managed to get the dragonfly.

The two find Michael More, the third cousin, who inherited. They search his house and belongings and finally find a cockroach charm. They figure they have all the charms. But then Lizzy is kidnapped by Wulf. He tells her that there is a fourth charm. And there is a tablet that he wants as well. eventually lets Lizzy go and she tells Diesel she knows who has the fourth charm. It is Melody who has many children. She has a bumble-bee charm she wears as a necklace. She gives it to the pair.

Diesel and Lizzy strike a bargain with Wulf to give him the tablet if he gives them the stone. Diesel’s mission is to get the stone. The four charms fit into the top of Uncle Phil’s coffin. It opens and the SALIGIA gluttony stone is there with the tablet. Wulf is true to his word and takes the tablet, leaving the stone for Diesel. Diesel is all set to return the stone to BUM and complete his mission.

Lizzy hates to see him go but knows he’ll be back since the SALIGIA stones are in the Marblehead area.

This is a sweet story. There is a lot of sexual tension between Lizzy and Diesel but they can’t get together because it two Unmentionables get together, one will lose their power and there’s no telling which one it will be. Glo is entertaining with her bumbling use of magic. She makes a mess of spells and has a terrible time with her broom.

I really enjoyed this story.

About mairedubhtx

I am a "youngish" grandmother of 15 year old twin granddaughter who has recently (is a year "recent"?) adopted Islam as my way of life, much to the consternation of my family. I love to read. I love to write. I am writing a book about my decision to revert, about my spiritual journey. I have another blog about stories from my youth, my parents, and grandparents. It's a blog so my OCD daughter will not be able to throw it out when I die. I suffer from depression and anxiety, for which I am treated, so my posts may be a bit dark at times. C'est la vie.

  1. I cannot figure out how you get so much read and posts. You must be better at organizing time than I am.
    This one sounds entertaining
