When you were 10, what did you want to be when you grew up? What are you? Are the two connected?
Photographers, artists, poets: show us DREAMS.
When I was ten, I had a favorite book. It was All About Archaeology. It was a wonderful book that explained the world of archaeology and the amazing discoveries that had been made in that field throughout the years. That book influenced my life.
All my life, I have been interested in archaeology. It has been a passion of mine. At university, I studied sociology at the undergraduate level and then planned to study archaeology in graduate school, but I opted to get married instead and my career as an archaeologist was over before it began.
But I never lost my interest in archaeology. I have collected books on archaeology all through the years and read anything I could get my hands on about the subject. Even now, I am looking into the possibility of taking graduate courses (auditing them) at the University of Texas at Austin Department of Archaeology. The university is not far from me and there may be programs that allow for older adults to audit courses and to participate in courses. I would love to do this and I am actively pursuing this avenue.
I have loved sociology and social work. It has a special place in my heart and I love what I do with my CASA kids today and what I did as a caseworker with kids when I worked with Children’s and Family Services. But my dream is to be an archaeologist. Maybe one day my dream will come true.
