Book Challenge Update–125

I have finished the 125th book for the book challenge. It was Plum Lovin’ (A Between The Number Novel) by Janet Evanovich.

plum lovinIt’s almost Valentine’s Day and Stephanie Plum teams up with Diesel for a caper in this story.

Stephanie is looking for a FTA (failure to appear) named Annie Hart. And it so happens that Diesel has this woman under wraps. She is an Unmentionable and he is protecting her from another Unmentionable named Bernie Beaner. Annie is a relationship expert so Diesel asks Stephanie to help out her five cases with finding true love for Valentine’s Day while Annie is safely stashed away. When things have calmed down, he will turn Annie over to Stephanie to turn in. In the meantime, he is trying to hunt down Bernie and also needs Stephanie’s help.

Stephanie agrees to take on Annie’s love cases. One is Charlene, a single mom who says she doesn’t have time for romance. Another is Gary, a vet who is in love with Loretta, who doesn’t love him. The third is Jeanine, a virgin, who is afraid of scaring men off by telling them she is a virgin. Then there is Larry the butcher who likes Jet from the coffee shop but is too shy to tell her. The final case is her own sister’s boyfriend who is scared to get married–he is afraid of weddings. Stephanie has her work cut out for her.

Diesel has Stephanie go to a bar to meet Bernie. But she shouldn’t get too close to him. He gives people hives. He is angry at Annie because he thinks she broke up his marriage. Stephanie talks to him but he gets away.

Stephanie plays matchmaker. She fixes up Charlene and Gary with each other. It’s a perfect match. Then she buys a bunch of sex toys and videos for Jeanine and Jeanine gets drunk on her date and wakes up with a man in her bed the next morning. Case closed. As for Larry, he and Jet talk about meat and Larry cooks dinner for her and they get along fine. Now Stephanie just has to worry about Albert.

Stephanie goes to the pawn shop where Annie supposedly stole a necklace. She discovers that the pawnshop owner substituted a fake for the real jewel. He then hid the necklace and shot himself in the foot and blamed Annie. However, thug Lou Delvina, whose necklace this is, still thinks Annie has the necklace. So Delvina kidnaps Annie and Bernie and takes them to his home.

Stephanie smashes her car into the hedge at Delvina’s house while Diesel goes in the back door to rescue Annie and Bernie. Bernie is giving everyone hives. Diesel and Stephanie have been to talk to Bernie’s wife Betty who will take him back. Annie had nothing to do with them breaking up.

Stephanie and Diesel decide to pretend that they are getting married and invite Valerie and Albert. Just before they say the vows, they tell everyone it’s really Valerie and Albert’s wedding before Albert can faint or take off. So Valerie and Albert are finally married.

For Valentine’s Day, Stephanie receives a single red rose, a dozen yellow roses from Morelli, and a bunch of daisies. She has three admirers. She’s a happy girl.

This was a happy story. It was a nice Valentine’s Day story. Everyone had a great Valentine’s Day. Everyone was happy. There was only a small mystery to solve. Nothing too heavy here.

About mairedubhtx

I am a "youngish" grandmother of 15 year old twin granddaughter who has recently (is a year "recent"?) adopted Islam as my way of life, much to the consternation of my family. I love to read. I love to write. I am writing a book about my decision to revert, about my spiritual journey. I have another blog about stories from my youth, my parents, and grandparents. It's a blog so my OCD daughter will not be able to throw it out when I die. I suffer from depression and anxiety, for which I am treated, so my posts may be a bit dark at times. C'est la vie.
