I have read the 146th book for the book challenge. It was Smitten by Janet Evanovich.
Lizabeth is a divorced mother of two young sons. She is looking for a job and has decided that she would like to be a carpenter. She goes to the job site down the street from her home and applies at the job site. The construction boss happens to be Matt Hallahan, who is instantly smitten with Lizabeth. He takes her on as a laborer. But he becomes very protective of her and a romance soon blooms.
Matt comes home with Lizabeth and meets her boys who fall in love with him. Lizabeth is attracted to Matt but is protecting her heart. She had a hard divorce from her husband Paul. Her aunt Elsie arrives to babysit the boys while Lizabeth works. Elsie is a feisty elderly lady who puts up with no nonsense. She encourages Lizabeth’s romance with Matt, inviting Matt to dinner. Matt helps around the house and plays with the boys.
Lizabeth starts having nightly visits from a naked flasher who stands beneath her bedroom window and shines a flashlight on himself. He wears Dockers, a necktie, and a paper bag over his head and nothing else. He throw stones at Lizabeth’s window to get her attention. Elsie stays up to see the flasher and she chases him away one night. Matt stays over on occasion and tries to scare him off. One night Matt is naked in Lizabeth’s bed and he runs after the flasher naked and he himself is caught by the police. Lizabeth tells the neighborhood that they are married. That causes the neighbors to send wedding presents.
The boys are sent to Lizabeth’s former husband’s house for a week. Lizabeth gets to ride on Matt’s motorcycle. She is really scared of it but he loved it. The boys return after only one day at their father’s. He couldn’t stand having them around. So they are there for the neighborhood barbecue when Lizabeth hope to spot the flasher. At the barbecue, the dog Ferguson snatches the ham and runs into the street and gets hit by a car. They rush Ferguson to a vet and he has a broken leg.
Lizabeth has seen someone she feels could be the flasher. She goes to his townhouse and confronts him. He admits it and tells her that her husband Paul put him up to it to harass her.
Lizabeth and Matt really do get married. She is now the office manager at his construction firm. He takes Billy out on the motorcycle one day and comes home with a black Jeep and a boat. He traded in the motorcycle for them as he thought they would be more useful for his little family. And they are a happy little family.
This was really a sweet little story. There was nothing exciting about it. It was just a sweet love story with a little mystery about the flasher thrown in. I quite enjoyed it.
