Writing a Book

Funny you should mention about writing a book. I am currently writing a book about my conversion to Islam and I am also writing about of family stories, telling about when I was growing up. I started to write the book on my conversion back in October and have been working on it every since. It tells about my life growing up in a Roman Catholic family and going to Catholic school. I tell about my marriage and divorce and my movement to the Lutheran church. I relate the story of my second disastrous marriage and my move from New York to Texas where i was very isolated from friends and family. I include my horrible divorce and forced move to Austin for work. I tell how I came back to San Antonio to be closer to my daughter and her family, and how I struggled to find a church home. It is a story of my spiritual journey which led me Islam, where I finally found peace and happiness. I have not started to look for a publisher or literary agent yet but my cousin has contacts in the publishing world and I am hoping that he can help me get my book published.

My other book is called Nana’s Stories and was meant for my granddaughters and nieces and nephews. I wanted to tell the children about our grandparents and stories of my youth. So I have written stories about the time when I was young and our playtime when we were youngsters. Times have changed so much in the last 60 years. I thought it would be good to tell the children what things were like “back in the day.” My cousin suggested that it might be a good children’s book, so perhaps he can help with that, too.

So today’s topic was very pertinent to me since I have already started to write two books. Someday perhaps I will be a published author.

About mairedubhtx

I am a "youngish" grandmother of 15 year old twin granddaughter who has recently (is a year "recent"?) adopted Islam as my way of life, much to the consternation of my family. I love to read. I love to write. I am writing a book about my decision to revert, about my spiritual journey. I have another blog about stories from my youth, my parents, and grandparents. It's a blog so my OCD daughter will not be able to throw it out when I die. I suffer from depression and anxiety, for which I am treated, so my posts may be a bit dark at times. C'est la vie.
